Outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven and rangehood under a timber-lined alfresco ceiling, pool beyond

Twenty openings, and what each one was actually solving.

Every photo here is a Nu Style installation in Perth, grouped by the kind of space rather than by product. Most people arrive knowing the problem — the western sun, the neighbour’s upstairs window, the alfresco nobody uses in winter — and work backwards to the blind. This page is arranged the same way.

Alfresco & outdoor kitchens

The room you already paid for.

Most Perth alfrescos get built beautifully and then used for about four months a year. Closing the opening is what turns it into the room the plan always said it was.

Swipe

Outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven and rangehood under a timber-lined alfresco ceiling, pool beyond
An outdoor kitchen is only worth building if you can stand in it in February. Shade over the cooking end is what decides that.
Built-in barbecue and pizza oven along a stone bench under a covered alfresco
The cooking wall gets the worst of the afternoon heat, which is exactly where a blind earns its keep.
Alfresco dining table set with drinks, looking out through the open side to a pool
Down for the glare, up for the evening. Nobody wanted to give up the view; they wanted to choose when they have it.
Alfresco dining setting with a ceiling fan, mesh blind lowered, lawn and trees visible through the weave
This is what a mesh looks like from the inside. You see the garden; the garden does not see much of you.
Covered alfresco with a long dining table and ceiling fan, mesh blind lowered against a distant view
Fan and blind together. The fan moves the air, the blind stops the sun arriving in the first place.

Poolside

Shade that does not block the pool.

A pool area is the hardest brief: get the sun off the seating without walling off the water. Mesh solves it because it shades without going opaque.

Swipe

Dark outdoor blind lowered on a rendered modern home beside a swimming pool
Dark fabric against white render. On a modern facade the contrast is the point rather than something to hide.
Large dark outdoor blind lowered on a house with a pool and lawn behind
One wide blind instead of two and a post. The post is the part you cannot un-see once it is in.
Alfresco lounge and dining space with a mesh blind lowered, looking out to a pool and garden
Sitting inside at the hottest part of the day, still watching the pool. That is the whole argument for mesh over solid.

On the facade

Either it disappears, or it is the point.

A pelmet sits in view all day whether the blind is down or not. There are only two good answers: match the building so it vanishes, or contrast hard enough that it reads as deliberate.

Swipe

Black outdoor blind lowered against a white rendered wall with outdoor lounge seating on lawn
Black on white, chosen on purpose. This is the contrast option rather than the disappearing one.
Dark outdoor blind on a white wall beside a planted garden bed
Same idea on a smaller opening. Consistency across a facade matters more than any single blind.
Modern home with an outdoor blind lowered on the side elevation beside a driveway
The side elevation nobody photographs and everybody has to live with.
Two outdoor blinds lowered on the corner of a house facing a lawn
Two openings treated identically, which is what stops a facade looking patched together.
Outdoor blind lowered over a patio, lawn and fence beyond
A single opening, closed off. Wind reduction is the underrated part — it is usually the breeze, not the heat, that drives people inside.
House exterior with outdoor blinds lowered across a covered area, lawn in front
Straightforward and quiet. Matched to the roofline, it stops being visible within a week.
Outdoor blinds lowered on a home with newly landscaped garden beds
Fitted while the landscaping was still going in, which is the easiest time to get the fixings right.
Home in the Perth Hills with outdoor blinds partially lowered, facing bushland and a valley
Perth Hills. Exposed sites are where guided systems earn their money — an unguided blind flogs about all afternoon.

Cafés, bars & venues

Trading through winter.

For hospitality the maths is simple: an enclosed terrace is floor space you can sell in July. Same product as a home alfresco, specified harder.

Swipe

Bar frontage with bright orange framing and planter boxes along a street
Frames powder-coated to the venue's brand colour rather than the building. Commercial jobs often want the opposite of a residential one.
Interior of a venue with bench seating and stools looking out to the street through glazing
Inside the same kind of space. Covers that would otherwise be lost on a wet Tuesday.
Corner of an outdoor area fully enclosed with clear PVC blinds
Clear PVC, which is why hospitality uses it: total weather block with the frontage still visible from the street.
Fast food outlet with bold yellow signage and outdoor blinds along the frontage
Drive-through frontage. Same brief as a home alfresco, just with a queue outside it.

Yours would be next.

None of these started as a picture. Each one started as somebody ringing up about a space that was too hot, too windy, too exposed or simply unused — and a consultant coming out to measure it. That part is free, and there is no obligation at the end of it.

Why the date holds

Anyone can make a blind. Fewer can finish on the day they said.

Ziptrak and Zipscreen design the product. What Nu Style adds is the part that decides whether your project actually lands: a factory it owns, departments that cover each other, and a phone that still gets answered years later.

Swipe

We make it, so we can date it

Nu Style is a fabricator for Ziptrak® and Zipscreen®, and builds Galaxy, Universal and Luna in its own Malaga factory. Nothing sits in someone else's production queue, which is why a date given here is a date Nu Style controls.

Five departments, not one van

Sales, measure, manufacture, installation and service are separate functions with separate people. That is what makes a date hold when somebody is away, and it is the difference between a business and a busy individual.

Systems, so less goes wrong

Measuring, ordering and fabrication run on systems rather than memory, so errors get caught in the factory instead of on your wall. Fewer remakes means fewer weeks added to your job.

Still answering in year seven

“I had an outdoor blind installed 7 years ago and had to replace the controller and, true to his word, Bruno replaced it free of charge even though out of warranty.” — Graham Nicholson, Google review
